"In the Shadow of Death"Award winning Writer/Director Stephen Puddle's production takes you through a dark journey of madness, brutality and the slaughter of the innocent, into the light of hope and heroism.presented by B'nai Brith, A.M.E.N. & ICEJ Written & Directed by Stephen Puddle - Produced by Velocity Theatre Productions
We follow the Elsner family of Stuttgart from the nineteen thirties as the Holocaust evolves from the disturbing new policies of the Third Reich into the horrifying attempt to annihilate an entire race.
Jewish culture and property was demolished and dumped like refuse. Jewish fathers and mothers, sons and daughters were slaughtered and incinerated like animal carcasses. There was no safe harbour anywhere in the world for these innocent victims.
Stephen Puddle, a young New Zealander drawn to the subject of the Holocaust by his humanity and a pure Christian heart, set out to learn all he could about this travesty of history. Through the combined mediums of traditional theatre, narration, film, dance and music, Mr. Puddle created this soulful and enlightening docudrama that will guide you through an emotional mine field to a safe harbour of sanity, hope and courage and onward to the present where antisemitism is once again on the rise while the world, once again, stands by in blind silence. " A profound, moving and unique approach to a topic of deep concern that each of us must confront"… Shirley Anne Haber (Media Action Group) "As long as there are writers like Stephen Puddle the lessons of the Holocaust will serve to make this a better world"… Elly Gotz (Holocaust Survivor… Dachau). "I can't recall any Holocaust related theatre event that had a greater emotional impact on an audience in one evening than this"… Reva Stern (Writer/ Director) |
