The Passover Seder and The Lord's Supper

A Personal Note from Ed Brotsky

From my childhood, I grew to appreciate and reverence the annual memorial of the Passover Seder, conducted by my father.
Questions have accumulated in my mind which, in later years, motivated my research in the "Ordinance of the Passover."
Over the past 50 years, I have come to a deepening understanding that the Passover marks the emancipation of Israel from 400 years of bondage in Egypt; that this memorial was ordained by the God of Israel; and that His Son, the Messiah and Saviour, came in person to celebrate the Passover Seder as His last supper with His twelve Jewish disciples.
The church has inherited Jesus' institution of the Passover of the "New Covenant" - familiar to Christians by several names:
The Lord's Supper, Holy Communion, The Eucharist, The Breaking of Bread.
Some of the questions which grew with my advancing years of research are:
Why do some Jews prefer fermented "Kosher L'Pesach Wine" for the Passover Seder, while other Jews restrict themselves to "Kosher L'Pesach Grape Juice"?
Why do some churches use fermented "Communion Wine" while others restrict themselves to the use of grape juice for "The Cup"?
Why do Jews unanimously and universally reject common bread made with yeast for the entire Passover week?
Why do some churches restrict themselves to "unleavened bread" ("matzah") for the Communion Service?

The Scriptural definitions for the original Passover elements need to be understood. Some Jews and some Christians have arrived at that knowledge. With humility and prayer, may I offer this study for the readers' edification.
