God's Road Map Is The Only One That Matters

By Scott Shore - June 2, 2003
It is time for Jews and believing Christians to declare openly the real problem with the “peace plan.” The plan runs counter to God’s explicit will with respect to the Jewish people. Thus the plan is doomed in the most profound, cosmic sense.
Those who call themselves Biblical Christians must realize that the question of the Jewish claims to the Land of Israel are as absolute as the Ten Commandments or the prohibitions against incest, bestiality or homosexuality. These laws apply to all mankind for all time. Only a heretic believes that the laws of the Bible are made by a God who in His Omnipotence and Omniscience would “change His mind”, God forbid. This article is not written for those who have already abandoned all shreds of connection with the Bible, but both Jews and Christians who profess to believe in the Divine essence of the Bible. How could such a person, Jew or Christian, ask Israel to do something which is prohibited by the Bible—namely the giving of land to those who will not recognize the total sovereignty of the Jewish people in ALL parts of the Land of Israel.

Thoughtful analysts on the Middle East have already discussed the many political and security reasons why the so-called Road Map to Peace” between Israel and Arabs in Judea, Samaria and Gaza is impractical, dangerous to both Israel and the West and is unlikely to see the light of day. I do not intend to repeat the historical, strategic or geopolitical arguments here because in a very real sense, they are a sideshow. It is time for Jews and believing Christians to declare openly the real problem with the “peace plan.” The plan runs counter to God’s explicit will with respect to the Jewish people. Thus the plan is doomed in the most profound, cosmic sense.

The Bible begins by stating, “In the beginning, God created the Heaven and Earth…” The classical commentator, Rashi, on the Bible brings up the obvious question. If the Bible is God’s instructions to the Jewish people and the world, why not begin by stating the first Laws God gave to mankind. Rashi explains that the reason the for the Bible’s narrative of Creation is to establish that “God is the Sovereign of the universe. ‘He created to His people the power of His works in order to give them the heritage of the nations (Psalms 111:6)’ If the nations accuse Israel of banditry for seizing the lands of the seven nations of Canaan, Israel can respond, ‘The entire universe belongs to God. He created it and He granted it to whomever He deemed fit. It was His desire to give it to them and then it was His desire to take it from them and give it to us’” How amazing. The entire Bible was dictated in such a way that the Creation story (which is not critical to regulating humanity) is to establish the rights of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel. The Bible anticipates the claims of other nations to the Land of Israel throughout history and in many places makes it clear that this Covenant between the People of Israel and the Land of Israel is Eternal.

God is by no means unclear as to what precise land the People of Israel are required to occupy and make the Land of Israel. In Exodus 23:31 God declares, “I shall set your border from the Sea of Reeds to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the Wilderness until the River, for I shall deliver the inhabitants of the Land into your hands and you shall drive them away from before you.” God continues in verses 32-33, “You shall not make a covenant with them or their gods. They shall not dwell in your Land lest they cause you to sin against Me, that you will worship their gods, for it will be a trap for you.” The Sea of Reeds is generally understood to be the Nile River. The Sea of the Philistines is the Mediterranean. The Wilderness defines the southern border as Sinai and Negev deserts and “the River” refers to the Euphrates. The northern border is elsewhere describes as being the Lebanon. These borders are generally considered the full borders at the end of history with the appearance of the Messiah.

A slightly different description of the borders is found in Numbers 34:1-15. These borders were the Biblical borders to which special tithing and agricultural laws including the Jubilee applied from the time of Moses until now. The relevant matter is that in both cases the required borders of Israel are far greater than the mini-state of modern Israel. The prophets tell us elsewhere that the land will be given “little by little” after God begins to regather the Jewish people from global dispersion. Under no conditions can a people live within the borders of the Land of Israel that do not recognize the God of Israel and the inalienable right of the Jewish people to the Land.

The behavior of the Arab states is no surprise to the Biblical scholar. In Genesis 16:11, we read, “And an angel of God said to her (Hagar), ‘Behold you will conceive and give birth to a son; you shall call him Ishmael, for God has heard your prayer. And he shall be a wild-ass of a man: his hand against everyone, and everyone’s hand against him; and over all his brothers shall he dwell.”

We find at least several other citations of Israel’s Divinely-established borders. God says to Joshua 1:3-4, “Every place upon which the sole of your foot will tread I have given to you, as I spoke to Moses. From the desert and this Lebanon until the great river, the Euphrates River, all the land of the Hittites until the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your boundary.” In chapter 48 of Ezekiel, the borders are stated in greater detail and the division of the Tribes of Israel is made clear. Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 record the utter doom and destruction of the enemies of the Jewish people at the end of days. Who can doubt that modern Israel rising up like a phoenix from the ashes of the Holocaust is the fulfillment of Messianic prophecy?

There is no Biblical basis for compromise on this issue. There is no place which allows any Israeli government to alienate Land that belongs to God and is kept as an inheritance for all the Jewish people. This means that when it comes to giving up any land won in war “little by little” not even one single inch can be given away. Such a giveaway of sovereignty is a major sin against God and His Nation. President Bush is a student of the Bible. Clearly he must know that the plans of kings and rulers come to naught when they are in defiance of God’s Laws. It is said that those who “bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed.” If America, as perhaps one of the last decent nations on the face of the earth, pursues a policy against God’s Design for the Jewish People and tries to impose a blasphemous treaty upon Israel, the result can only be disastrous for America and the world.

It is often argued that America can not be more pro-Israel than Israel. That is false. At the present era in history, Israel is ruled by a secular government that puts its trust in other nations, treaties and armaments. The only security for Israel is the Almighty Himself. The very existence of Israel is itself a visible miracle. The fact that Ariel Sharon or any other secular leader of Israel takes it upon himself to give away the Land of Israel is like a drunkard seduced by worldly “powers” and should be ignored. Moreover, such a compromiser holds back the promised time when “swords will be turned into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks.” In short, the entire world has a stake in the rebuilt Jerusalem and the full and complete renewal of the Jewish people in the whole Land of Israel, for this is the precondition for the redemption of all the nations in the world. Let us all keep our eye on the True Road Map…the One God has Chosen.
