VIPAC: Palestinian Text Books Continue to Preach HateDear Sir:
A long standing criticism of the Arab peace initiative concerns the failure of the Arab educational systems to teach anything but hatred toward the Israelis and Jews. Text books and curricula in their school systems portray the Jews as being the singular cause for Arab troubles.
It was the hope of those truly interested in the fostering of peaceful relations in the Middle East that the long awaited introduction of new text books would bring about a reversal of this policy.
I read with dismay a report in the New York Times of September 13, 2000, regarding these new texts. There appears to be no change in the lies that the Arabs teach their children. To cite just one instance in a quote from The Times, "The creation of Israel is explained tersely as 'the Israeli occupation of 1948,' which with the assistance of Britain 'destroyed most of the Palestinian villages and cities and kicked the Palestinian inhabitants from their lands.'"
The director general of the curriculum development for the Palestinian Authority was quoted as "citing 'Mary and Jesus' as examples of Palestinian personalities in the new books." To those of who know history, they were Jews who, according to the current definition of Palestinian, have no right to the land and cannot be called Palestinian.
How the truth can be bent for any purpose.
I urge you to support Israel. There can be no peace unless the Arabs start practicing for peace. Until they show that they really want peace the efforts at the "peace" table will only weaken Israel for the holy jihad that the Arabs are practicing for.
